Call for Artists – Gateway to Old Oak: Willesden Junction Bridge
OPDC is excited to invite artists to help transform one of Old Oak’s key gateways into a vibrant and welcoming public route.
Willesden Junction Bridge provides a key connection from Harlesden Town Centre and Overground Station, southwards towards the Old Oak Lane Conservation Area and canal, as well as marking a key gateway into the future new neighbourhood of Old Oak. The bridge is currently heavily proliferated with graffiti tags and makes for an unpleasant pedestrian experience due to the nature of the high parapets, which block long views out across the railway lines.
Working with a local artist, OPDC wants to transform this route into a welcoming and inviting entrance to Old Oak, using art as a tool for wayfinding and cultural identity. As a key pedestrian route from the station – it's important that this route feels safe and welcoming to use for all.
Submissions should demonstrate a balance between creativity and practicality, considering durability, sustainability, and ensure that it is easily maintained. The selected artist or team will be expected to work closely and engage with the local community and draw influence from local area, to ensure the design is inclusive and representative of Park Royal.
The proposal(s)s must be achievable within the available budget of up to £25,000 weather-resistant, and designed to last.
The winning submission will be announced in February 2026, with the final design to be installed by the beginning of Spring 2027
How to apply
Interested applicants are invited to submit their expressions of interest by filling in the application form here by Sunday 18th October, Midnight. Interviews will be held w/c 26th October.
