Call for Artists – Gateway to Park Royal: Subway Improvements
OPDC is excited to invite artists to help transform one of Park Royal’s key gatewaysinto a vibrant and welcoming public route.
The pedestrian subway at Mason’s Green Lane provides a key connection into Park Royal. However, at the moment the existing underpass feels disconnected and uninviting.
Working with a local artist, OPDC wants to transform this space into a welcoming and inviting entrance to Park Royal, providing improved wayfinding, safety and placemaking. As a key pedestrian route from the station – it's important that the underpass feels safe.
Working with OPDC – we want the artist to help us design a muralthat will turn the underpass into an accessible, and visually striking space that reflects local diversity, community pride, and promotes sustainable travel.Design proposals can include a range of approaches and materials, including painting, tiling, re-cladding, or integrated public art.
Submissions should demonstrate a balance between creativity and practicality, considering durability, sustainability, and ensure that it is easily maintained. The selected artist or team will be expected to work closely and engage withthe local communityand draw influence from local area,to ensure the design is inclusive and representativeofPark Royal. The proposal(s)s must be achievable within the available budget of up to £50,000, weather-resistant, and designed tolast.
